Creating

It’s nice when things fit perfectly into a box. It’s nice when you can make a checklist and thoughtfully complete each item on that list. It’s nice when things just simply come together. I love the idea of order and structure, but when it come to designing, I have a more haphazard style. Or, maybe you could say curated. I don’t fit neatly into any one type of designer. I like to create home spaces as an interior designer and I like to create paper suites as a graphic designer. I simply like to create things - from the beginning brainstorm sessions, to the trial and errors, and all the way through to the end when the product looks right and it brings joy to the customer.

Currently, my house walls are my creation station. Since it is under construction and walls get demoed out, my ideas can come and go. Some of my ideas we are glad to see go and laugh about a plan that did not quite come together. Other things I have been sad to see demoed out - like a hot air balloon I painted as practice before painting them in my niece’s room. Some other things, like an upholstered ceiling and wrapping paper wall covering turned out magnificently and I have dragged my feet on removing because I just love them so much! I have enjoyed living in temporary spaces because it lets me create freely, without the weight of permanence. Friends ask me what my house is going to look like when it is done. I do have ideas and plans and all that stuff, but I too am waiting to see what creative juices are flowing when the time comes.
